Sabbath Rest

Did you watch the royal wedding Friday? Like any confirmed anglophile, I did! My favorite moment was when the choir and the whole assembled wedding guests and wedding party sang "Immortal, Invisible". Nothing like the sounds of voices filling a cathedral with praises to God. It's like a foretaste of what heaven will be like!

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small,
in all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
and wither and perish, but naught changeth Thee.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
all praise we would render, O help us to see
'tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee!

- Walter C. Smith (1867)

  1. My daughter and I agree that the best things about royals weddings (well, besides the people watching) is the music.

  2. Yes, it's so nice when a wedding still has the old hymns. I enjoy when you post your Sabbath rests and give the words to a hymn (along with your beautiful photography). Have you seen this Instagram account?

    1. Aww...thanks! I'm happy to hear someone appreciates them! We sing solely hymns and psalms at church, and that makes me indescribably happy! I love their rich language and the sense that we are bonded with Christians through the ages.
      Thanks for the tip on the Instagram account!
